renting a studio in accra, what to look for
When you rent a photo or video studio in Accra, check five things before you book: enough floor space and a clean cyclorama for what you are shooting, proper lighting rather than whatever is on the stands, reliable power, the sets you need, such as a working kitchen or a podcast corner, and somewhere for talent to change and get ready. Then decide whether you are bringing your own crew or hiring one with the room. Creat.ing is opening an 80 m² studio in Labone built around exactly that list.

Start with what you are shooting
A studio that is perfect for product photographs can be wrong for a cooking show, and a podcast room is wrong for a fashion shoot. Write down what you are making, how many people will be on set, and what the shots need to show, then judge every studio against that rather than against its photographs on Instagram.
The space and the cyclorama
A cyclorama, the seamless curved wall that makes the background disappear, is what clean product, fashion and portrait shots are made against. Check that it is freshly painted, that the curve is smooth where the wall meets the floor, and that there is enough distance between the subject and the wall to light them separately. Ask for the floor size, and whether all of it is usable or some of it is storage.
The lighting
Light makes the photograph more than the camera does. Ask what lights the studio has, whether they are included, and whether they are continuous lights for video or flash for stills, or both. Cheap lighting shows in skin tones, food and white products first, which is why our studio is lit with Profoto, the kit professional studios use worldwide.
Power you can trust
A shoot day that stops when the power does is an expensive day. Ask what happens during an outage, and whether the backup can carry the lights as well as the air conditioning. It is the least glamorous question on this list and often the most important.
The sets you need
Beyond the cyclorama, some shoots need a set that is already built:
- A working kitchen: for cooking shows, recipe videos and food content, where the stove actually cooks.
- A podcast set: microphones, seating and a background that already looks right on camera.
- Room to build: if you are bringing your own set, check how long you have to build it and strike it.
The rooms around the studio
Talent needs somewhere private to change, and a make-up area with good light. Clients need somewhere to wait that is not the set. A bathroom that works matters more than people admit. A studio without these turns a professional day into a borrowed one.
With a crew, or without
Some studios only rent the room. Others can supply a photographer, a videographer, an editor and the cameras. If you have your own team, check what equipment is included. If you do not, a studio with its own crew means the people shooting already know the room, the lights and the power, which saves the first hour of every booking.
